“How To Torture Your Body To Make It Better”

This is not about chopping your leg off to get rid of 60 pounds.  This is about more subtle ways people choose to align their body weight with their self image.  Your desire for weight loss often demands that you instigate extreme diet methods which leave you with a series of physical and emotional trauma to deal
with afterwards.

The obesity you have created by overeating sets you up for the eventual consequences that result from any dieting program involving rapid weight loss as the goal.  Rapid weight loss might be defined as losing body weight at a rate of 3 to 5 pounds per day for 2 to 3 weeks.  Let’s review a few of the often used rapid dieting plans:

  • Starvation—eating no food or drink containing calories.

  • Bulimia—induced vomiting of everything you eat or drink

  • Extreme exercise along with one of the first two.

  • Extreme exercise along with a  low calorie diet (under 1000 calories/day)

You know that the basic principle for weight loss is to reduce the (food) calorie intake below what the body needs each day to function normally.  If you laid on your back without moving for 24 hours your body will consume about 1500 calories.  Add a normal day physical activity to that and the requirement of the body doubles.  So, you have to count calories each day to know how you’re doing.  It’s the same requirement for rapid weight loss.

Peter Glickman (TheMasterCleanse.com) reports that you can lose 16 pounds in 10 days using starvation alone……..but certainly is not a good idea.

The usual consequences of rapid weight loss are:

·         Severe dehydration—nutritionist Charles Passler says you lose only water and muscle mass---not fat tissue as you might think or intended to.

·         Lost muscle mass—something that results in weakness and fatigue.

·         Metabolic overload—forcing the body metabolism to be on a 24/7 high priority conversion of fat into protein and carbohydrates (fat being recycled) so the body can maintain its required functions.

·         Mental Dysfunction—concentration, attention span, clear thought process, and decision making are severely disturbed which occurs in anyone deprived of normal blood chemicals such as post-operative surgical patients
may display.

·         Aggravation of other body medical problems—like hypertension worsening from the stress, headaches increased, diabetes control goes out of whack, depression may become worse, and guilt from the rapid regaining of weight after the diet process is completed—among others.

When you finally wake up to the fact that all of these problems rarely occur with the slow weight loss programs, you might want to make a different decision the next time around.  On the other side of the coin, losing weight at 2 pounds per week will result in loss of fat primarily which is what everyone wants to get rid of.

The question is……are you willing to punish your body for what your mind got you into?  Your mind is the villain.  It tells you when you’re hungry and uses that as a scape goat to cover its inability to put limits on your food intake by providing you with a hunger-less feeling in spite of all the other reasons you overeat in the first place.  So, stop torturing your body and do the right thing to make your body better.

Rapid weight loss actually could be called generic weight loss (artificial) because it does result in weight loss but the loss isn’t fat that’s being lost.

What’s the right weight loss thing to be planning?

Your body has no forgiveness for forcing it into a situation of demanding fast weight loss, as defined above, under any circumstances.  The right action to take is to gain the knowledge about what your body can tolerate, what the limits are, and work with your body metabolism, not against it.

Understanding why the body and your mind puts limits on, for example, running 50 miles by making you so weak, out of breath, and in pain before you ever get 20 miles, while not having a protective mechanism for preventing overeating and obesity is a complex issue yet to be solved.

Obesity can be viewed as a protective mechanism of the body in some aberrant manner.  Obese people have a much harder time committing crimes, are the last to die of starvation in wars, have protective cushioning when they fall, and don’t have to waste money on designer clothes.

Advice: lose the weight and keep it off permanently using any plan that will accomplish that for you.

The best way to do that and how to do that are detailed throughout the Internet resources.  One way actually is the only way to lose weight and keep it off.
